Edge profiles

Countertop edges, drawn so you can actually compare them.

The edge is the part of a countertop you touch most, and it changes how thick and how formal the stone looks. Each drawing below is the same slab seen from the side, with a different edge.

Eased

A square edge with the sharp corners just softened. Clean and simple, and it suits almost any modern kitchen.

Bevel

The top corner cut at an angle. Crisp, a little more detail than eased, and it catches the light along the edge.

Half bullnose

Rounded on top, square underneath. Gentle on hips and elbows, which is why people pick it for islands and busy kitchens.

Full bullnose

Rounded top and bottom into a half circle. A softer, traditional look, and no corner to chip.

Ogee

An S-shaped curve. Formal and decorative, and it suits granite and marble in traditional rooms.

Mitered

Two pieces joined at 45 degrees so the counter looks thicker than the slab. Carried down to the floor, it becomes a waterfall.

Drawings show the shape, not exact dimensions. You'll find mitered waterfall edges throughout our gallery. Ask about any profile your project needs.

Mitered and waterfall

When the edge becomes the design

A mitered edge joins two pieces at 45 degrees, so a 2 or 3 centimeter slab can look like a thick block. Take that miter all the way down and you get a waterfall: the stone turns the corner and runs to the floor.

It's the most demanding edge we cut, because the veining has to line up across the joint. Done right, it looks like the island was carved from one stone.

Questions we get

Which edge is easiest to keep clean?

Simple profiles like eased and bevel. Deep curves like ogee have more places for crumbs and grime to sit.

What is a waterfall edge?

A mitered edge carried all the way to the floor, so the countertop turns down the side of an island or vanity as one continuous piece. The pattern wraps around the corner.

Does the edge change the price?

It can. Simple edges take the least shop time; mitered edges and waterfalls take the most because two pieces are cut and joined. We price the edge you choose in your quote.
