Stone fabrication · W Pima St, Phoenix
Countertop fabrication, done in our own Phoenix shop.
Fabrication is the part of a countertop job you never see, and the part that decides how it looks for the next twenty years. It's what MAJ is built around.
What happens between the template and your kitchen
A slab arrives as a big flat sheet of stone. Fabrication turns it into pieces that fit your cabinets to the fraction of an inch, with the edges, cutouts and finish you picked. At MAJ that work happens in our shop on West Pima Street.
Layout
We place each piece on the slab before cutting. On natural stone that decides where the veining lands: across an island, down a waterfall end, or matched across a seam.
Cutting and cutouts
Pieces are cut to the template, with openings for undermount sinks, cooktops and faucets cut in the shop rather than on site.
Edges and finish
Each exposed edge is shaped to the profile you chose and polished to match the top. Mitered edges and waterfalls are cut and joined so the pattern wraps around the corner. Compare profiles on our countertop edges page.
Check before it leaves
Every piece is checked against the template before it goes on the truck, so it arrives ready to set.

Materials we fabricate
Four stones, four ways of working
Quartz is consistent from slab to slab, so long runs match. Granite is hard and varies by the piece, so layout matters. Marble is softer and shows every flaw in the polish. Quartzite looks like marble but is much harder to cut. We work all four, and we'll tell you how your choice affects the layout and the schedule.

Questions we get
Can I bring my own slab?
Ask us. Some jobs start with stone the owner already bought. We'll look at the slab, the layout and the seams first, and tell you exactly how we'd cut it.
Do you fabricate for other contractors?
Yes. We work with builders, general contractors and remodelers who need a fabricator they can schedule around. See the builders page for how we handle plans and takeoffs.
Where does the seam go?
We plan seams from the template, before cutting: away from sinks and cooktops where we can, and placed so the veining flows across the joint. On large islands we'll show you the layout first.
